The event raised funds that were donated directly to The Children’s Trust. This year marks the company’s 32nd year involved with the initiative, from the first very first year to this year we are proud to help raise vital funds that were donated directly to The Children’s Trust and to work alongside its founder Christopher Freeman to encourage bakers and businesses to take part.
A huge thank you goes out to all the businesses that took part including Warings, Bird’s Bakery, Joe and Dough, Cornish Premier Pasties, the Oak Bar restaurant. Burns The Bread and Doughnott for supporting the campaign on their social media channels.
And this year saw the results of a new survey that found the classic filled doughnut is STILL the UK’s favourite with 52% of the vote. With nostalgic memories of happy times enjoying them on beaches and at fun fairs, Jam doughnuts are the nation’s favourite flavour with raspberry (39%) the favourite filling followed by strawberry with 23% of the vote. Plain custard is third with over a fifth (21%) opting for it while 9% would opt for chocolate custard instead. Speciality flavours are favourite with 6% of doughnut fans. When asked to detail which ones they prefer their favourites fillings included (among others) apple jam, lemon curd, and cream.
